LaHood and DOT Honored for Disabled Vets Memorial
Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood receives a 2010 AMERICAN VETERANS DISABLED FOR LIFE SILVER DOLLAR to thank the U.S. Department of Transportation for its support of street and road infrastructure projects surrounding the site of upcoming American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial in Washington, D.C. The American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial will be the country’s first national memorial dedicated to living and deceased disabled veterans and is planned for a site within view of the U.S. Capitol. Students raise money for Delray Beach-based Veterans' Memorial Foundation

A $2,000 donation from the Purple Heart Society — a local grassroots teen initiative — has brought the Delray Beach-based Disabled Veterans' LIFE Memorial Foundation closer to its goal.

Groundbreaking for the American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial is scheduled for later this year in Washington, D.C.

Commemorative Coin Aids American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial

Disabled veterans across all services branches were honored on Feb. 25 with the release of the 2010 American Veterans Disabled for Life silver dollar, the first commemoriative coin issued by the United States Mint this year.  The coin was officially launched at a Capitol Hill reception in Washington, D.C.  Guest included DAV National Commander Bobby Barrera, Director of the United States Mint Ed Moy, former Deputy Secretary of Veterans Affairs and Disabled Veterans' LIFE Memorial Foundation (DVLFM) Director Gordon Mansfield, VA Cheif of Staff John Gingrich and former VA Secretary and DVLMF spokeperson Anthony Principi.
